The ETP4HPC representants stressed the economic impacts of the HPC technologies and the window opportunity to expand the position of European players in this domain. They explained the commitment of their organisations to invest in the development in Europe of HPC technologies and the possibility for the European Commission to leverage this effort by putting in place a global strategy for the development of HPC in Europe.
These messages were well received and Vice President Neelie Kroes underligned that HPC is a priority of the European Commission due to its strategic important for both excellence science and industry leadership. She explained that the European Commission consider to have a plan for HPC development covering development of the supply chain, access to leading HPC infrastructure and HPC application and usage development. She mentioned that the HPC domain could be a candidate for developing a Public Private Partnership to pool all the resources and to improve the collaboration between the stakeholders.
To move foreward, it was agreed that the ETP4HPC will provide to VP Neelie Kroes and the European Commission a document presenting its view on the priorities to include in a PPP.
