PRACEdays17, the fourth edition of the PRACE Scientific and Industrial Conference, took place from Tuesday 16th until midday Thursday 18th during the European HPC Summit Week. This year’s PRACEdays theme was HPC for Innovation: when Science meets Industry. Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) hosted this second edition of the European HPC Summit Week, which is the premier networking forum for High Performance Computing (HPC) experts in Europe. Erik Lindahl, Chair of SSC, opened PRACEdays17 and a welcome speech was given by Anwar Osseyran, PRACE Council Chair &CEO of SURFsara, and also by Josep Maria Martorell, BSC Associate Director and host.

This edition featured high-level international keynote talks and presentations, which included: a keynote by Khalil Rouhana, Deputy Director-General, DG Connect, European Commission, on ‘The European HPC Strategy – The European Data Infrastructure (EDI)’; Minna Palmroth, University of Helsinki, Finland, gave a keynote on ‘Vlasiator: Understanding Near-Earth Space in Six Dimensions’. This was followed by Telli van der Lei, DSM Chem Tech R&D BV, giving one on ‘Quantitative Supply Chain Optimization Using Big-Data Methodologies in The Chemical Industry’.

Leonardo Flores Añover, Project Officer, European Commission gave a presentation on the ‘Call for proposals of Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Telecom 2017’ with an announcement of CEF Telecom Call 2017. Our association was represented by Jean-Pierre Panziera, ETP4HPC Chair, by giving a presentation on ‘Developing European Technology to Serve the HPC Ecosystem’.

On Thursday, PRACEdays hosted a panel session moderated by Inma Martinez, who is considered by Fortune and TIME magazines as one of the world’s leading digital media strategists. Renowned experts discussed the topic: ‘Support to HPC code: The gap between scientific code development and exascale technology. The software challenges for extreme scale computing faced by the Community’.
