During this morning's session of the 2nd day of PRACE DAYS 16, at the European HPC Summit Week 2016, Prague, Jean-François Lavignon gave his Keynote on the Development of HPC technology to serve the European HPC ecosystem.

The European HPC ecosystem is based on three pillars: technology provision (represented by ETP4HPC), the pan-European research infrastructure (represented by PRACE – Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) and application expertise (represented by the Centres of Excellence in Computing Application). The balanced evolution of these three elements ensures the development of a globally competitive HPC ecosystem that benefits the European economy and citizen. The EXDCI project (European Extreme Data and Computing Initiative) coordinates the implementation of the European HPC strategy.

The three pillars interact in order to form a coherent HPC environment in which the needs of all users are met, whilst the technology provision pillar and the applications pillar participate in a contractual Public-Private Partnership with the EC.
