The Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna was founded in 1088 and is considered to be the oldest University in Western Europe. Nowadays it still remains one of the most important institutions of higher education across Europe with more than 85.000 enrolled students, 11 Schools, 33 Departments, more than 3000 academics and 3000 administrative staff.

HPC at University of BolognaReferring to the high performance computing, UNIBO main research interests are related to HPC hardware development (computer architecture, parallel programming models and energy optimization and management for green computing systems), HPC software development (big data processing, Cloud, stream processing) and HPC applications in several scientific contexts (chemistry, biology, pharmacology, astronomy and cosmology, nano-electronics and device physics) and research domains (e.g. smart cities).
