Queen’s University Belfast has been ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world according to a new report by the QS World University Rankings by Subject (2012/13). Queen’s University Belfast is also a member of the Russell group – a group of 24 leading UK research intensive universities and is a top university in the UK for promoting the careers of women in science and engineering. Queen’s University Belfast engages in partnership with businesses such as Petronas in Malaysia (green chemistry), Seagate and Bombardier and with the public sector through RCUK, EU, Wellcome Trust, NI Health and Social Care Trusts.

 

In 2012 QUB was European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award that acknowledges alignment with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for their Recruitment. QUB is one of four UK Universities to hold an Athena SWAN institutional Silver award (there are no UK universities who currently hold the Gold Award). The Athena SWAN Charter was introduced in 2005 to advance the representation of women in science, engineering and technology and to address gender inequalities and improve career progression for female academics. The Athena SWAN awards recognise and celebrate good practice in recruiting, retaining and promoting women.
