CIMNE

CIMNE is an autonomous research and development center dedicated to promoting and fostering advances in the development and application of numerical methods and computational techniques for the solution of engineering and applied sciences problems in an international context.

The research activities of CIMNE cover the development of innovative constitutive models for composite materials and structures, new numerical methods for non-linear analysis and safety studies of structures, shape optimization in structural and fluid dynamic problems, computational fluid dynamics studies for both external and internal flow problems and numerical simulation of material deformation and forming processes for the manufacturing industry, mesh generation and visualization interfaces, casting and thermal process, stochastic optimization as well as program parallelization and distributed computing techniques.

For many years, CIMNE has dedicated large effort to developing efficient multiphysics solvers for a variety of applications, most of which are implemented under KRATOS, CIMNE’s open-source object-oriented platform for development and integration of FE codes for multidisciplinary coupled problems (http://www.cimne.com/kratos/). KRATOS has several applications for CFD, CSD, DC etc. which can be combined for solution of coupled problems. In the last years KRATOS has been migrated to HPC platforms becoming a generic parallel simulation program, based on libraries such as Trilinos in their kernel layers. Most of its applications have already been ported to an OpenMP/shared memory environment to MPI/distributed memory environments, and some of them even to GPUs.
